MaryAnn Stephens, Long Island Knitwear Designer, joins us again to teach her beautiful fair isle mitten…perfect for those chilly winter days ahead! In this class MaryAnn will guide you through the journey of fair isle/stranded knitting in her own fun and educational style. Students will learn Circular knitting, Chart reading, Stranded swatching, Stranded braids, Stranded purling and knitting, mitten shaping…and so much more!!! This is not a class to be missed!!! Students need to have basic knitting skills for this class.

Don’t let this little bootie fool you…there are a massive amount of skills to be learned while creating this fabulous bootie that actually stays on little feet!!! This bootie is knit in the round and is perfectly seamless internally so as not to bother the feet of a brand new baby. In this class MaryAnn will teach you Circular knitting on DPNs, Hemming as you knit, Basic lace knitting, Bootie shaping, with picking up sts and with decreasing, Decorative and symmetrical decreasing, I-cord…the list is endless!!!! Even if you don’t have a little one to knit for…this is the class to take to broaden your knitting skills for any project that may come along! Basic knitting skills are required for this class.

Taught by Long Island knitting and crochet teacher, Sharon Barnes, learn the fabulous and creative art of freeform crochet! In this class you will create a marketbag of your own design using the elements of crochet. With no pattern to restrict you, Sharon will teach you how to let your creativity flow and create a one of a kind bag of your own design. Basic crochet knowledge is essential for this class and basic knitting knowledge is helpful but not necessary.

KMIS now offers general classes in knitting and crochet. Beginners will learn the fundamentals of casting on, knit and purl stitch and casting off in knitting. In crochet, beginners will learn how to chain, single and double crochet. Advanced students will progress on to more adventurous projects.

LEARN TO KNIT SOCKS $60 plus materials

Socks are all the craze…partially due to their project portability as well as the fun and fabulous yarns available to knit them in! In this class you will learn how to knit cuff down socks on 4 double pointed needles. Sock anatomy will be covered.

THE MAGIC LOOP TECHNIQUE $60 plus materials
Wednesday February 8, 15 and 29 - 6pm to 7:30pm
Learn to knit socks using 1 long circular needle…with the Magic Loop method! Once you learn this technique you can knit anything…hats, sleeves…in the round without using DPNs. This class can be used as a prerequisite for knitting 2 socks on 1 long circular needle eliminating second sock syndrome!

GAUGE…WHAT IS IT AND WHY IT’S SO IMPORTANT! - $30
Friday January 27 – 6pm to 8pm or Friday February 10 – 6pm to 8pm
Ever knit a sweater…put all that work, time and energy into it to find that once you were done it didn’t fit? Way too big or too small? Ever carefully calculate how much yarn you need to for a project only to run short at the end and need to buy more than the pattern asked for? Is the problem your knitting? NO! Most likely your problem relates to gauge. In this class we will explore gauge…what is it? How does it relate to the size of our knitting? Why is it so important to calculate your gauge before starting a project? These questions and more will be answered. If you take only one class this year…this is the one to take! Sign up early as there is homework for this class.

KNITTING 911 - LEARNING HOW TO RECOGNIZE AND FIX YOUR MISTAKES! - $30

Drop a stitch? Don’t know your knits from your purls? Then this is the class for you! In this class you will learn how to fix your mistakes and become an independent knitter! Topics that will be covered in this class are picking up stitches, putting in lifelines, figuring out mistakes in pattern and how to handle extra stitches. Utilizing reference materials will be covered as well. There is homework and a supply list for this class so please register early.

AETHERCOPTER SHAWL - $60 plus supplies

Thursday March 1, 8 and 15 – 6pm to 7:30pm
Using O-Wool Balance, we will knit this beautiful shawl perfect for wearing while we dream of the warmer weather to come this spring. Students will learn slanted increases, lace pattern work and a picot bind off. Blocking lace will also be covered. Basic knitting knowledge is essential for this class.

Calling all Girl Scout Troops and leaders!
Want something new to do at your meetings? We can customize a lesson no matter what age your troop is! We offer special pricing for all Girl Scouts and your troop will have the use of our private classroom for your lesson. Call us for more details. A fun and fabulous time will be had by all!!!
Private and Semi Private Lessons
$25 an hour for one student
$20 each for an hour for two students
Keep Me in Stitches offers private lessons in knitting, crochet and beading. You will have an instructor for a one on one or one on two lesson and we tailor your lesson to your schedule. Please call with your availability.
Class Policies: Each knitting class needs a minimum of 3 registered students to run. Knitting classes must be paid for at time of registration. Knitting class fees are nonrefundable once the class has started. 72 hours notice required for cancellation of class and a store credit will be given for another class. Except for the beginner learn to knit and crochet, supplies are not included. All supplies must be purchased at Keep Me in Stitches. |
